Former White House intern, Monica Lewinsky has revealed how she initially got President Bill Clinton’s attention before they began their affair. In an upcoming A&E docu-series, ‘The Clinton Affair,’ Monica Lewinsky shares a handful of new details about her time in the White House, and notes that it was her exposed underwear that got the president’s attention back in 1995.
During a birthday party for a White House staffer, where Bill Clinton was present, Lewinsky says she noticed that her underwear was unintentionally showing from behind but she decided to leave it be.
“Instead of pulling my trousers up, like I would in any other instance, I didn’t. It was unnoticeable to everybody else in the room, but [Clinton] noticed. As I passed George Stephanopoulos’ office, I kind of looked into the open doorway, and Bill happened to be standing there. And he motioned me in. I don’t think my heart had ever beat that fast. Unbeknownst to me, I was on the precipice of the rabbit hole,” she recalled.
Lewinsky and Clinton proceeded to engage in a year-long affair, and Lewinsky says that “there were always narratives of secrecy” during their relationship.
“We were both cautious, but not cautious enough,” she added. “I was completely at his mercy.”
