Popular entertainers; Davido, Wizkid and Simi were the biggest award winners at the 2018 Headies award which held at the Eko Convention Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos. While Davido won the award for Best Pop single and Artist of the Year, Wizkid won three awards; Best R & B/Pop Album, Best Music Video, Best Collabo with Tiwa Savage and Headies Viewers’ Choice. Simi equally took home three awards; Best Recording of the Year, Best R & B Single and Album of the Year Mayorkun a member of Davido’s record label won the Next Rated Act category and the an SUV that usually comes with winning the award

The awards ceremony which is in its 12^th year was supposed to have taken place in December of 2017 but due to a fire incidence that destroyed a huge portion of the premises housing Hip Hop World, organizers of the Headies Award and owners of Hip TV, the awards ceremony had to be shelved for March 2018. Unfortunately, the day it was supposed to be held, it couldn’t hold as the richest man in Africa, businessman, Aliko Dangote played host to some of the richestest people in the world, business entrepreneurs, world leaders, technocrat at his last daughter, Halima’s wedding on the same day at the same venue. Again the award ceremony had to be moved again to May 5^th when it eventually held.

Formerly known as the Hip Hop World Awards, it was established in 2006 by the Hip Hop World Magazine to recognise outstanding achievements in the Nigerian music industry. The Headies is Nigeria’s longest running, biggest and most glamorous music award ceremony in Nigeria and has often be referred to as Nigeria’s Grammy awards.

With comedian, Bovi as the co-host, there was no dull moment all through the duration of the ceremony. He gave the audience something to keep them talking long after the ceremony ended by throwing subtle shade in the direction of Timaya, Senator Dino Melaye, Rudeboy and Mr P, members of the defunct P-Square group. He was ably assisted by singer, Sey Shay
