While many reveled in the glamour of the last leg of the richest man in Africa, Aliko Dangote’s daughter’s wedding, physically and via the social media, not many realized that the same day the wedding held, March 24th, also happened to be the same day The Headies, Nigeria’s version of  The Grammys, was also billed to hold at the same venue. Known to be a symbol of rewarding creativity, passion and excellence in the Nigerian Entertainment Industry, The Headies which was to hold late last year as has been the norm for several years, was cancelled due to circumstances beyond the organisers’ control, but majorly because the headquarters of Corporate World Entertainment, organizers of the award ceremony, got gutted by fire, thus prompting the event to be moved to the 24th of March this year.

This year was also supposed to be the 12th edition of the award ceremony. So the announcements were made last year and preparations towards the event was already in top gear when the organizers got the shock of their life; the management of Eko Hotel and Suite forced the organizers of Headies to forgo the date as they were told that the scheduled date has been booked by the presidency to celebrate an occasion. The occasion date happened to be the lavish wedding ceremony of Fatima Dangote and Jamil Abubakar, one of the much talked about event in recent times and for a long time to come. A new date is yet to be announced but the organizers of the award ceremony are putting plans in motion to ensure that it will be a memorable event.
