A Tinubu Magistrate’s Court has discharged Aminu Atiku Abubakar, son of former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, of contempt but granted the custody of his two children to his estranged wife, Fatimo Bolori. The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Kikelomo Ayeye ordered that the children, Amirah, 8 and Amir, 6, should be in the custody of their mother for 10 days, pending when permanent living, visiting arrangement would be made.

Atiku who was earlier remanded in transit cell due to his disobedience of court order to produce his son, Amir, was later released when he fulfilled the court order/ Ayeye, thereafter, adjourned the case till November 1, 2017, for further hearing.

Aminu had disobeyed an order made by Chief Magistrate Kikelomo Ayeye on Oct. 11 over the custody of six-year-old Amir Abubakar, who he took away from the custody of Bolori. He had failed to produce his son in court today on Wednesday). Following which his estranged wife, Ms. Bolori, brought the case before the court, and the magistrate ordered for the emergency evacuation and protection of the child pending the hearing of the case later on Wednesday.

Aminu’s lawyer, during the hearing said the parties were making plans to settle the matter out of court, a statement counsel to his estranged wife, Ethel Okoh, denied knowledge of. Consequently, Chief Magistrate Ayeye cited Atiku for contempt for disobeying a court order. She ordered that the respondent should be remanded in transit cell and the case stood down pending when he would produce the boy.

The estranged couple who got married in Borno State in 2007 and got their union dissolved by a Sharia Court in Maiduguri in 2011. On 11th of October 2017, Miss Bolori got a court injunction to take custody of their children upon reports that her kids who have been with their father, were lacking motherly care. The court document revealed that their 8-year-old daughter who now lives with Miss Bolori sent numerous text messages to her about how unhappy she is at her father’s home.
