The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on Saturday is now retracing it steps and countering its earlier assertion. The body had said yesterday that it cannot interfere in the rape allegation against him Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA) as the body does not interfere in the running of churches, only concerning itself with serving as an intermediary between the church and the government.

“I am sorry CAN does not intervene in how churches are running. Churches belong to denominations and these are the two bodies that regulate how pastors run their ministries, not CAN. CAN deals with inter religious matters and stands between the church and the government,” the body had said.

But in sharp contrast to what it said yesterday about the rape allegation, CAN says it is condemning any rape in whatever form, in strong terms, saying it doesn’t matter who is involved. This is in light of the rape accusation levelled against the founder and senior pastor of Common Wealth of Zion Assembly, COZA by Busola Dakolo, wife of singer, Timi Dakolo.

CAN President, Samson Ayokunle who gave the condemnation stressed that justice must prevail in all rape cases. Ayokunle described rape as ungodly, wicked and reprehensible. He however, noted that CAN had no details on the trending allegations against the founder of Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), Pastor Abiodun Fatoyinbo. But he confirmed that the association had reached out to the Christian wing which Fatoyinbo belongs to ascertain truth of the matter and take necesssary actions.

“We have no details about the matter other than what we are reading and hearing from the social media, and this is not reliable and credible evidence. The CAN leadership has reached out to the leadership of the block which the Pastor in question belongs with a view to getting to the root of the matter. This will help us to make the right decision on the issue,” he said.
