President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Governor-elect of Osun State, Adegboyega Oyetola, for winning the governorship election. In a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, Buhari also congratulated the state and national campaign teams for working assiduously to guarantee the victory at the polls. He also commended the outgoing Governor Rauf Aregbesola for eight years of steadfastness and service to his people.

He called on the Governor-elect to always remember that the electorate expects an unreserved commitment to delivering results that directly impact their lives and families. He added that the outcome of the election in Osun State further strengthens the democratic culture in the country and extolled INEC for, once again, making the country proud.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Adegboyega Oyetola, the winner of the Osun governorship election after the supplementary election held in seven polling units on Thursday. Oyetola had trailed the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ademola Adeleke, by 353 votes going into the supplementary election. His votes from Thursday were however enough to help him overturn the deficit and be returned as winner of the keenly contested governorship election. The final votes announced by the electoral body shows that Oyetola got 255,505 votes, while Adeleke secured 255,023 votes.
