A man, identified as Oluseyi Adekunle, on Friday jumped into the Lagoon in Lagos from the Lekki-Ikoyi link bridge. Witnesses claimed Adekunle jumped over the rails and into the Lagoon after dropping his bag. His ATM card and other items were recovered from the scene of the incident, thereby revealing his identity.

After a four-hour search without recovery of the body, the officials of the Lagos State Waterways Authority, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency and the Marine Police Authorities called off the search operation after confirming  the suicide jump.

LASEMA General Manager,  Mr Adesina Tiamiyu, said the agency received the distress call from the Lekki Concession Company (LCC) officials regarding the incident. Tiamiyu said the footage was captured through the camera when he suddenly pulled off his clothes and shoe, while noticing there was no one around him and jumped into the lagoon.

He said the agency immediately activated its emergency response with other stakeholders, including the Lagos State Waterways Authority, Marine Police, Lagos State Ambulance Services and the Nigerian Police from Maroko Division.
“Although the body is missing, effort is ongoing to recover it by men of the Marine Police and the Lagos State Waterways Authority. They have been combing through the waters for over three hours on the possibility to recover the body with no sign of it in the water now. But all items found on him were also handed over to the Nigerian Police from Maroko Division for further investigation,’’ he said.
