Rebecca Ikumelo, one of the four critically injured victims of the pandemonium at the South London concert of Nigerian music star, Ahmed Ololade aka A
32 year old Ikumelo, who was from Newham, was left in a critical condition following the stampede at the Afrobeat sensation’s show on Thursday, December 15.
However, she succumbed to her injuries in the early hours of Saturday morning, December 17.
About 3,000 people without tickets had broken into Brixton Academy, the venue of the concert, causing congestion and crushing amongst the crowd.
The Metropolitan police were then called to the scene to cancel the show amid security concerns.
Unfortunately, at least eight amongst the concert-goers had suffered different degrees of injury, with four of them being left in critical conditions.
Meanwhile, Asake had since released a statement, saying that his heart is with the victims of the incident, while confirming the initiation of processes in reaching out to the individuals personally.
The singer said that, “My heart is with those who were injured last night and caused any form of discomfort.
“I pray you get well soonest. I am also in the process of reaching out to individuals.
“I still do not have the full brief from the venue management themselves as to what led to the disruption at the entrance of the Brixton academy, but we are thankful that all was peaceful at the end,” part of the statement said.
Simmilarly, the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, expressed his sadness over the death of Ikumelo.
Khan, on his Twitter page, extends his condolences to her family, friends and loved ones.
He wrote, “I am heartbroken by the tragic death of Rebecca Ikumelo, who has very sadly died following the awful events on Thursday night in Brixton.
“Rebecca had her whole life ahead of her and on behalf of all Londoners, I would like to extend my condolences to her family, friends and loved ones at this extremely difficult time.
