Senator Abdullahi Adamu has resigned from his position as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress APC.
Adamu reportedly resigned as APC National Chairman on Sunday ostensibly at the dictate of President Bola Tinubu.
“Adamu resigned a few minutes ago on the orders of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” a source who pleaded anonymity disclosed.
“Officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC have surrounded his home but they are being fended off by the police officers attached,” the source added.
The source also revealed that the APC National Secretary, Iyiola Omisore may likely follow suit.
For the past two weeks, elements within the party have been calling for Adamu’s resignation threatening to remove him at the next National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting this week if he failed to resign.
The party’s NEC meeting was initially billed to hold July 10 and 11 but was postponed till Tuesday and Wednesday this week due to the president’s international engagements.
Those who are calling for Adamu’s resignation accused him of working against the President during the party’s presidential primaries, publicly supporting former Senate President, Ahmed Lawan and failing to fully back Tinubu even after securing the party’s ticket.
Adamu was also accused of mismanaging the party’s funds.
