The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike on Wednesday disclosed that the All Progressives Congress, APC, would come after the Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal following his defection from the ruling party. Wike speaking at the Government House in Port Harcourt disclosed that APC would unleash the Economic Financial Crimes and Commission, EFCC, on Tambuwal soon, following his defection. He further lauded Tambuwal for doing the right thing, describing his defection as a victory for democracy

He said, “There are some people who have said that we cannot continue to live in a world of intimidation. We cannot continue to live in a world of harassment. Every right thinking Nigerian should come together to see that something is done to salvage the country. I am aware that with what he has done today, the next line of action, the APC Federal Government will unleash the EFCC on the Sokoto State governor and his government.

“Nigerians should not be swayed by claims that the APC leaders are not worried about Tambuwal’s defection. Recall that Tambuwal as speaker of the House of Representatives led the formation of the coalition that prompted the victory of the APC in 2015,” Wike added.

Aminu Tambuwal who was elected governor of Sokoto state on the platform of APC had announced his defection to the PDP yesterday while describing the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a sanctuary for the corrupt. Tambuwal was elected speaker of the house of representatives under the platform of PDP but defected to APC in 2014.

“I speak to you today with a mixture of sadness and relief because I did not expect that the APC, which promised so much when the Peoples Democratic party (PDP) stood under the sway of impunity, could not maintain or manage whatever good it inherited,” he said.

“It has also not broken new grounds in any positive sense, but has instead reached historically unprecedented heights of impunity in all manner of vices far above and beyond the challenges which made some of us to leave the PDP about four years ago to join others to form the APC. The party has brazenly turned itself into a sanctuary for the corrupt and a machine for rigging and for the rape of democracy.”

Earlier, the governor congratulated Senate President, Bukola Saraki and Governor Ahmed of Kwara State for their courage to defect to the PDP noting that more defections were coming.
