Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan on Wednesday formally lodged a petition with the Senate, alleging that Senate President Godswill Akpabio had sexually harassed her.
Raising the matter under Order 40 of the Senate Rules, Akpoti-Uduaghan informed her colleagues that she had previously made the claims during a televised interview but was now officially bringing them before the Senate for consideration.
In response, Akpabio instructed her to proceed with the submission.
The petition was filed just hours after opposing protests unfolded outside the National Assembly.
While Akpoti-Uduaghan’s supporters demanded Akpabio’s resignation over the allegations, a rival group backing the Senate President dismissed the claims as baseless.
