Nollywood actor, Femi Branch as been unveiled as the running mate to Tofunmi Ogunronbi, the governorship candidate of the National Rescue Movement, NRM in Ogun State.

The film star announced that he was picked as Ogunronbi’s deputy in a statement on his Instagram handle.

The NRM gubernatorial candidate said he picked the Ogun State born actor because he believes he would add more value to his candidacy.

Buttressing his point, Ogunronbi said the movie star has been vocal against bad governance and social injustice.

He added that Branch has a “clear understanding of the task ahead and the need to work with a co-visionary with a shared passion for the emancipation of the good people of the state.”

The gubernatorial candidate said if elected, he and the actor would deliver the state from “decades of stagnation and bad governance, help her achieve her true potential.”

He enjoined residents to support his team’s vision to transform Ogun into “the best state in Nigeria and indeed better than some West African countries.

“If elected, I set to produce a new trajectory for a visible measurable, enviable and rewardable welfare strategy with solid security strategy that will make every indigene and indeed every inhabitants of Ogun to be safe and secured and make this transgenerational,” he added.

Branch joins the list of Nollywood stars who have been named running mate ahead of 2023 governorship elections.

His selection comes a few days after Funke Akindele, the actress, was officially  unveiled as the deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos state.

Last month, Tonto Dikeh was also declared the running mate to Tonte Ibraye, the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers state.
