The country went wild on Monday, February 14, following the arrest of the suspended police chief, Abba Kyari, by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

NDLEA had earlier declared Abba Kyari wanted over his involvement in a 25kg cocaine deal, and immediately released video evidence to show as proof for the allegation.

Recall that the suspended officer still has a pending case for taking a bribe from suspected celebrity internet fraudster, Ramon Olorunwa Abbas, alias Hushpuppi, from a $1.1million loot, for which he is supposed to be extradited to the United States.

Following the arrest by NDLEA, the police force where he was suspended from as a commander of the Intelligence Response Team, IRT, released a statement.

According to a journalist, Chukwudi Iwuchukwu, the statement released by the police gave hint about an inter-agency rivalry.

The statement showed that Abba Kyari made the wrong move by arresting drug mules who had NDLEA officers at Enugu airport on their payroll.

The NDLEA officers at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu have been a part of the drug chain since 2021.

The arrested drug couriers confirmed that the plan is for the transnational drug barons to conspire with the NDLEA officers on duty and send them their pre-boarding photographs for identification, seamless clearance, and unhindered passage out of the airport with the narcotics being trafficked.

After being cleared by NDLEA, they were leaving with the drugs when they were stopped and arrested by the police (Abba Kyari’s team). After the arrest, Abba Kyari tried to sell the drugs that were ceased from the carriers.

The NDLEA senior officers are upset that Abba Kyari and his team arrested drug smugglers that their boys at the airport had cleared to leave.

So, an informant for the drug cartel used Abba Kyari to play a smart one. The other members of the cartel don’t like it, so they have now decided to move against Abba Kyari and his gang using the same NDLEA that cleared the drug smugglers.

Senior NDLEA officers are upset that a rogue police officer tried to sell cocaine that had been seized from smugglers, and this happens to be their side business, which gives them extra money.

Abba Kyari is expected to name the people he sold the seized cocaine to and the informant among the drug cartel that has NDLEA on their payroll that gave the drug mules away to Abba Kyari.

So if Abba Kyari and his team did not make the move to arrest the drugs smugglers who had been cleared by NDLEA officials, stationed at the Enugu airport, there apparently would have been no setup and an arrest.
