Hugely successful soul and pop solo vocalist, George Michael is dead. The singer who shot to stardom in the 80s as a member of musical group, Wham and later as a solo artist, passed away peacefully at his Oxfordshire home at the age of 53. No cause of death has been revealed so far and police rule out any suspicious circumstance surrounding his death. In his lifetime, the English singer, songwriter, and record producer, sold more than 100 million albums. Born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou but professionally known as George Michael, he got into the British music industry in the early 80s and by 1987, debuted his solo album, Faith. In 2004, he was named the most played artist on British radio during the period 1984-2004. Michael ranked among the best selling British acts of all time with Billboard magazine ranking him the 40th most successful artist to ever live. He was a recipient of numerous awards throughout his 30-year career. The openly gay artist was a well known philanthropist who donated proceeds from the sale of some of his albums to several causes ranging from famine relief in Ethiopia to AIDs to education and to several charities for children. He was said to be working on a new album with producer and songwriter, Naughty Boy before his death.
