The Federal Government on Wednesday, October 23, announced the withdrawal of money laundering charges against Tigran Gambaryan, an executive at Binance Holdings Limited.

The charges, originally brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, accused Gambaryan and two others of being involved in a money laundering scheme involving approximately $35 million.

The case also included Nadeem Anjarwalla, Binance’s British-Kenyan regional manager for Africa. Both Gambaryan and Anjarwalla were initially detained by the office of the National Security Adviser.

However, Anjarwalla escaped from custody on March 22, 2024, while Gambaryan was subsequently arraigned in court in April.

After his arraignment, Gambaryan was ordered to be held at the Kuje Correctional Facility, where he remained until the recent decision to withdraw the charges.

The withdrawal comes amidst ongoing discussions about regulatory oversight and compliance within the cryptocurrency sector, highlighting the complexities of enforcing financial laws in an evolving digital landscape.
