A-list actress and movie producer, Genevieve Nnaji is back to the spotlight after being AWOL for months.
The actress made her first public appearance today in Abdijan, Cote d’ Ivoire as a speaker at the 2022 edition of CANEX Weekend, discussing the importance of the film industry to development in Africa.
CANEX Weekend is a three-day gathering of creatives from across Africa and the diaspora.
The three day event which began on Friday ends on Sunday November 27.
Genevieve joined a list of more than 100 top speakers from Africa and the diaspora, representing a range of creative sectors.
Some of the other top creative names, experts, brands and thought leaders who are billed to speak at the event include the Nigerian trio of Bruce Onobrakpeya; Alex Okosi, Managing Director of EMEA Emerging Markets at YouTube and award-winning author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.
Others are Abdul-Karim Abdullah, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Culture Management Group (CMG) and Afrochella Festival (Ghana); Magali Ohouens, Modern Art Specialist and Exhibition Coordinator at Cécile Fakhoury Gallery (Côte d’Ivoire); Armando Cabral, Founder and Creative Director, Armando Cabral (Portugal) and Elvis Adidiema, Director and Sony Music for French-speaking Africa, amongst others.
Months ago, speculations were rife that the actress suffered from some form of mental illness and was hospitalized especially after she deleted pictures on her Instagram account and unfollowed everyone.
The actress did not react to the unfounded rumour even after a self acclaimed nurse in the United Kingdom claimed Genevieve was admitted in the hospital she works in.
She would later return to social media by sharing a video of herself, where she was painting on a canvass and captioned it, “#mindfulness”.
