Madonna appears to have just flipped the middle finger at Pepsi with her latest Instagram post. The 58 year old pop queen took to her Instagram to share a photo of herself, rocking brunette hair and a red kimono with a can of Coke in one hand. The post was captioned with a medal emoji and it is a no-brainer that Madonna was throwing shade at Pepsi following their recent controversial Kendall Jenner commercial which featured Kendall Jenner seemingly saving a world filled with racism and police brutality via a can of Pepsi. The advertisement has since been taken down as a result of the backlash that followed.

But why is Madonna throwing shade at Pepsi? Well, in January 1989, the controversial singer inked a $5 million endorsement deal with Pepsi after she released her ‘Like A Prayer’ single. Pepsi had also agreed to sponsor her world tour and launch ‘Like a Prayer’ globally via the commercial. Unfortunately, the brand was forced to revoke the advert in April 1989 after it stirred up serious controversy. This was as a result of the original music video of ‘Like a Prayer’ which was labelled politically, racially and religiously offensive.

Both Pepsi and Madonna suffered some loss; fans as a result of the ad, career suffering a brutal hit. Not only did Pepsi cancel Madonna’s sponsorship contract, she was also banned from countries like Italy.
