The Nigerian army has admitted that it brought live bullets to Lekki tollgate where the shooting of #Endsars protesters happened on October 20, 2020. The army had denied using live bullets insisting that they made use of blank bullets which were not directly shot at the peaceful protesters.

Brigadier General Taiwo, commander of the 81 division of the Nigerian Army confirmed this while being cross examined by Olumide Fusika, a senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN) before the Lagos judicial panel on Saturday November 21.

Taiwo who said the live bullets was for the protection of the army team that was deployed to restore order in the area, averred that the soldiers who opened fire used blank bullets. He also disclosed that their colleagues with live rounds were on ground to protect themselves from suspected hoodlums who fomented trouble.

via its Twitter handle. He said, the military denied their involvement because it did not have its fact available.
“The first statement was born out of the fact that we did not have the facts available to us and the second was because nobody was sent to the Lekki tollgate to breakup any protest” he said
