The Nigerian Army said on Saturday that it evacuated about N2bn from banks in Lagos State after hoodlums began to attack and loot banks and businesses in the mayhem that followed the #EndSARS protests.

The Commander of 81 Military Intelligence Brigade, Victoria Island, Lagos, Brig. Gen. Ahmed Taiwo, said this on Saturday while testifying before the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry probing the alleged shooting of #EndSARS protesters by soldiers at the Lekki tollgate on October 20.

Taiwo said widespread looting followed the protest, adding that he was most hurt to see even women leading their children to break into private business places to loot.

Speaking of banks being broken into, Taiwo said, “We were able to help banks evacuate about N2bn after two days.”

The Army had earlier said the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, invited the soldiers to quell the unrest in the state.

Rampaging hoodlums had hijacked the nationwide demonstration for police reform and good governance to loot and burn public and private assets in major cities in the country, especially Lagos.
