Embattled founder of music label, Chocolate City, Audu Maikori, who was arrested again on Friday last week on the others of Governor El-Rufai has been granted bail on health grounds. Audu who appeared before a Kaduna Magistrate’s Court along Ibrahim Taiwo Road received the bail on ‘very liberal terms’ after he was taken to court by police officers and the Director of Public Prosecution in Kaduna State, Dari Bayero. Further hearing on the matter has been adjourned till May 24.
Recall that just last week, the record label boss had slumped shortly after moderating a question and answer session with media mogul, Mo Abudu at the Muson centre venue of an event being hosted by Women in Business WiMBIZ and was taking selfie with fans when he collapsed. It was not clear what the immediate cause of his collapse was, but he was immediately revived and taken to St Nicholas hospital for further medications.
Maikori was arrested on February 17th for a series of tweets sent to his followers that five students of the College of Education, GidanWaya in Kaduna state, were ambushed and killed by Fulani herdsmen. The music executive now faces allegations of incitement to violence initiated by the Kaduna State Government despite his apology on realizing that the information was false.
In an interactive forum at the Lagos Social Media Week on March 3, the Kaduna State governor, Mallam El Rufai who’s come under intense scrutiny for his alleged bias in the ongoing attacks in the state, said Maikori must be prosecuted as stipulated in the controversial Cybercrime Act.
Maikori is the latest Nigerian social media user to be detained under the Cyber Crime Act, with bloggers Seun Oloketuyi, Emmanuel Ojo and Abubakar Usman all running foul of the law over the past two years.
