Rotimi Akeredolu, governor of Ondo state, has terminated the appointments of the aides attached to Agboola Ajayi, his deputy.

Akeredolu and Ajayi have been having a running battle which finally led to the resignation of the deputy governor from the All Progressives Congress (APC). Ajayi had defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) where he has indicated interest to run against the governor in October.

The affected aides are Olomu Bayo, special assistant, special duties; Olawale Mukaila, special assistant, photography, Babatope Okeowo, deputy chief press secretary; Samuel Ogunmusi, personal assistant, (deputy governor), Omotunmise Tokunbo, special assistant to the wife of the deputy governor; and Erifeyiwa Akinnugba, photography, wife of the deputy governor.

Segun Ajiboye, Akeredolu’s chief press secretary, who signed the statement, directed the affected aides to submit all government’s property in their possession to the chief of staff to the governor.

Ajayi was in the news on Sunday when policemen led by Bolaji Salami, commissioner of police, prevented him from moving out of government house, Akure.

Meanwhile, the deputy governor has raised alarm over plans to impeach him by members of the state’s House of Assembly on the instructions of the governor. Ajayi further alleged that the sum of N10m had been given to each lawmaker for the hatchet job to be executed.

He said he had only exercised his constitutional right of freedom of association in accordance with section 40 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 by moving the to the Peoples Democratic Party from the All Progressives Congress. Ajayi insisted that he had not committed any offence by taking the decision.
