At the just concluded Paris Fashion show which is the final leg to the bi-annual fashion festivities, Chanel, one of the design houses that showcased it’s fall/winter collection really outdid itself. Known for always thinking outside the box for its show, the Paris show might be the most jaw dropping offering yet from the fashion house led by creative director, the indomitable Karl Lagerfield. The runway show was a stylish interpretation of a space station, complete with a fully Chanel-branded rocket ship that actually launched before the models hit the runway. The launch/takeoff act was made possible by a metal structure, faux sparks and smoke that gave the visual effect of an actual blastoff.
Fitting in with the aeronautical theme were quilted capes, futuristic silver go-go boots, and silhouettes reminiscent of the ‘race to space’ era. Lagerfield also gave the collection the literal treatment by using astronaut and planet prints including a rocket-ship handbag for good measure.
