The Imo State House of Assembly, on Thursday passed into law a bill which will stop past governors and speakers from receiving their pensions and other privileges, DailyPost is reporting.

The executive bill was presented by the Majority Leader of the House, Uche Ogbuagu and given accelerated hearing, adding that the bill would go a long way in saving cost for the State.

According to him, the State loses about N1.3bn annually to offset the bills, a sum he described as humongous enough to pay workers’ salary. He applauded the Governor, Hope Uzodinma for assenting to the bill, adding that Imo State will soon enjoy the benefits derivable from the law.

Uche Ogbuagu is the member representing Ikeduru State Constituency in the Imo House of Assembly.
