Coronavirus: UK death toll jumps to 336 as confirmed cases soar to 6,650

A total of 336 people have now died in the UK from coronavirus, an increase of 54 since yesterday. This comes after a further 46 people in England died following a COVID19 diagnosis.

NHS England said in a statement on Monday (March 23).
“A further 46 people who tested positive for the coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in England to 303. Patients were aged between 47 and 105 years old and all had underlying health conditions. Their families have been informed.”

Meanwhile the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson has banned people from leaving their homes apart from for a few “very limited” reasons, as he imposed the most stringent restrictions seen in Britain since the end of World War II.

Police will break up public gatherings and fine people flouting rules, Johnson said in a remarkable televised statement on Monday evening, dramatically ramping up the country’s response to the growing coronavirus pandemic.
