Besides former minister of education, Oby Ezekwesili’s attendance at the World Economic Forum on Africa held in South Africa, it was also discovered that she was not the only Nigerian in the country. Governors Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State and the Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi are also in South Africa.

This has generated reactions from Nigerians on social media especially because Nigeria pulled out of attending the World Economic Forum over xenophobic attacks against foreign nationals in South Africa, particularly, Nigerians only for two governors of the ruling party, All Progressives Congress, to attend.

However, an aide of governor Fayemi has denied that he was at the World Economic Forum in South Africa but was rather, honouring an invitation by a longtime friend, Dele Olojode at the “Africa in the World Festival of Ideas” which held in Stellensbosch far away from Cape Town. In addition, the said event was said to have already held before the decision of the Federal Government to boycott the WEF programme.

Also, the official Twitter handle of the Emir revealed that he delivered a speech at Africa in the World Conference in Stellenberg, South Africa.

Obiageli Ezekwesili, was subjected to intense criticisms by Nigerians for attending the conference on Wednesday, September 4 and same Nigerians have not spared Fayemi, Sanusi and Elrufai.

Once FG withdrew her presence at World Economic Forum in Cape Town, South Africa, our leaders such as El -Rufai , Fayemi ,Sanusi, Aig Imoukhuede & Jim Ovia should have withdrawn. Stellenbosch ( I miss my city) is just less than 1hr to Cape Town. I am disappointed. Come back home @woye1

We aren’t a good Christian& Moslem if we were hard on Oby& closed our eyes against El -Rufai, Fayemi& Emir SANUSI. Yes they have arrived in SA b4 our decision to withdraw, but they were clever by half to go to nearby beautiful town Stellenbosch & pretend not to be in Cape Town @woye1

@KadariaAhmed

They are not at #WEF they are

@africainworld a private event organised by Nigerian  @deleolojede. This event has NOTHING to do with WEF and and started before the attacks. The question is should a Nigerian man who spent his resources organising this be ruined?

@woye1

The pulse of the NATION REJECTED anything South Africa . Do u know the distance between Stellenbosch to Cape Town? Any event in South Africa by any Nigerian should be CANCELLED. Who is paying El Rufai or Fayemi’s bill ? Personal or FAAC . Pls read and pass and no comment

@VictorHF_Okoye

Add these guys and Mr. Jim Ovia to this list. Call out every one of them. This selective outrage isn’t it Distinguished

@BlackStCapital

Nigerians are protesting #SayNoToXenophobiaAttacks by boycotting WEF Gov Nasir Elrufai, Gov Kayode Fayemi, Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, Amina Jane Mohammed, Aunty Oby Ezekwesili, Jim Ovia Our leaders don’t rate us! Revolution…It’s coming and soon! #XenophobiaInSouthAfrica

@DemolaOjo

You out Oby and forget to mention Fayemi, Sanusi Lamido and El rufai. Isn’t Lamido a private citizen? Fayemi and El rufai are part of govt and the ruling party. They can’t be sympathetic, ehn?@MBuhari @NGRPresident Presidency unashamedly employing bigotry

@emma_dele

Friends and handlers of Elrufai, Fayemi and Co should do them a favour and just keep quiet!
Granted, they were in SA before Nigeria decided to suspend relations with SA, they should have suspended whatever they were doing and return immediately! But, no perception management.

 @AdeBanqie

If we are dragging Madam Oby for being at the WEF even after Nigeria pulled out, which is ridicuous in my opinion, then same should happen to SLS, El-Rufai, Fayemi and others. Let us keep the same energy.

@renoomokri

Is it right that @NGRPresident CONDEMNED  @ObyEzeks for attending the World Economic Forum, @WEF in South Africa even as Nigerians call for #BuyNigerianToPunishSA, but hid the fact that General @MBuhari‘s right hand man, @Elrufai was also at an event in SA? Why single out Oby?
