Afro-soul vocalist, Aramide Sarumoh is all set to be inducted into the Recording Academy Governing Board of the Grammys. The song bird who has worked with the likes of Eldee, Adekunle Gold and Skales, made the disclosure on Friday, in a series of celebratory tweets through her handle.
“When I started making music, all I knew was that I wanted to sing. I was at a point where everything seemed lost, a state of despair. I was hopeless, dejected and scared I wouldn’t make it and that my music wouldn’t be accepted. I just wanted my voice to be heard. But there’s one thing about music. It promotes lots of emotions and I channeled everything I felt into it,” she wrote.
“I’m proud of the stories I’ve been able to tell. Now, music is so much more for me. It’s more than just making my voice heard. Today, I’m happy to announce to you that, after being an active voting member of the recording academy for years, this Monday, I will be inducted into the Recording Academy (the GRAMMYs®) Governance Board. I will now be a part of the Governors for the Washington DC Chapter board.”
With this, Aramide joins the list of 18 other music professionals of the yet-to-be-constituted governing board and also follows in the footstep of Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, Nollywood actress, who was enlisted into the voting membership of the Oscars Awards in 2018.
Aramide’s music quest started in 2006 when she contested on ‘Star Quest’, a rather prestigious and competitive music talent show at the time, wherein her band emerged the third runners up. In 2008, she partook in a Jos show themed ‘Diva s Unplugged’ alongside leading Nigerian female artistes and got signed to Baseline Music in 2014 after her exit from Trybe Records.
Aramide is renowned for her ‘Iwo Nikan’, a single that earned her an award for Best Vocal Performance (Female) at the 2015 Headies. Her debut album ‘Suitcase’ was released 2016 featuring Ice Prince, Adekunle Gold, among others.
