A Nigerian, Abigail Katung who is based in the United Kingdom has won an election to represent Little London and Woodhouse Ward in the 2019 Leeds City Council elections
The 43 year old is the wife to the running mate of Kaduna State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship Candidate, Sunday Marshall Katung.
Thomas Riley, Deputy Returning Officer of the elections, announced that Abigail Katung polled 1,749 votes to emerge the Councilor for Little London and Woodhouse Ward Of Leeds City Council.
She ran and won the election on the platform of Labour and Co-operative Party to beat Andrews Gavin Michael Of Green Party, who came second with 391 votes and four other contestants.
As a councilor, she would work all year round for her constituents, promoting a safer community, a cleaner and greener community, as well as campaign against government austerity and for a business-friendly city.
According to her, the victory will open the doors for more diverse representation in British politics, while she hopes to be a good ambassador of Nigeria, ensuring positive links.
Abigail Katung who was born by parents from Southern part of Kaduna State, is also the Managing Director of 1st Resource Ltd in the UK.
