Gen. Yakubu Gowon (retd) on Friday, slumped by the graveside of late Maj-Gen. David Ejoor in Ovwor, Olomu Kingdom in Ughelli South Local Government area of Delta State, where he had attended the funeral rites of late Ejoor .

Military officers at the event immediately took the 84-year-old former head of state to a nearby shed, where an ambulance was stationed. Governor Ifeanyi Okowa also joined the resuscitation team in the canopy to observe how Gowon fared. After first aid treatment was administered on Yakubu Gowon, he recovered and was allowed to rest awhile. A few other eminent personalities, including former Governor James Ibori and Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki stood by the ex-head of state until he was stabilized.

Ejoor who died on February 10, at the age of 87 was the first Nigerian Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy and was once administrator of the now-defunct Mid Western Region during the Biafra Civil War. He then served as Chief of Army Staff from January 1971 to July 1975.
