Barely 48 hours after a building collapsed in Ita-Faji area of Lagos Island, killing over 20 people including school children, another has again succumbed to gravity. This time at Egerton Square, Oke Arin, Lagos Island as well. The building was one of the 80 buildings earmarked for demolition in the state. Four people said to be scavengers who were trapped in the collapsed building have been rescued according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).

“The building had been marked by LASBCA for demolition, which started yesterday… the officials were on top of it when some scavengers tried to remove the doors on the ground floor and the remaining parts of the building collapsed on them. The four scavengers sustained minor injuries and have been taken to nearest hospital,” a statement from LASEMA read.

The incident happened around 3:45pm on Monday. Officials of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LABCA) were demolishing a house beside the building when it caved in.

On Friday, a three-storey building under construction in Ibadan, Oyo state collapsed but all the 23 workers were rescued.
