Dele Momodu, the publisher of popular Ovation Magazine and a staunch supporter of Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has explained why he took to social media to ask the presidential aspirant to concede the election.
Dele had earlier taken to his Twitter handle on Tuesday and asked Atiku to call President Muhammadu Buhari and accept defeat while the result of the presidential election were still being collated. In the 18 states announced so far, APC has won in 10 while PDP has won in eight. He said, “My dear WAZIRIN, as a believer, you are aware that only God can give or take power. You’ve written your name in gold. Do not wait a minute longer. Please, pick that phone and call President Muhammadu Buhari. You have much more to gain Sir… Pass on the burden!”
A former aide to ex president Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri quickly disagreed with his method of attempting to reach out to the presidential aspirant and tweeted at him;
Dear @DeleMomodu
I know for a fact you have @Atiku’s phone number, email address and WhatsApp details. Why do you choose to do this publicly? Why add to the already heavy burden the man is carrying? He is carrying an elephant. Why add a snake to his load? https://t.co/XTvDN46ZYS

Sensing that he may not have done the wisest thing with his tweet, Dele Momodu tried to explain his reason for asking Atiku to concede defeat.
My dear Reno, I've read your tweet. Pls let me say a few things for the record:
1. I did not work for Atiku, I only volunteered like I did for Buhari in 2015. I never interacted with his campaign office
2. The PDP Chairman, Uche Secondus publicly rejected the results yesterday… https://t.co/p7EGxfQZ3G— Dele Momodu Ovation (@DeleMomodu) February 26, 2019
3. The last time I met or spoke to the Wazirin was before PDP primaries but I supported him and still do with all my heart
4. My tweet was not meant for his private consumption but for his huge and passionate followers like me…
5. I learnt many lessons from the June 12 saga! https://t.co/p7EGxfQZ3G— Dele Momodu Ovation (@DeleMomodu) February 26, 2019
6. I felt the tension being generated by the rejection of the polls even before the end of the exercise
7. I consider it pertinent to avert the imminent danger occasioned by the reckless misadventure of the Buhari government and its operatives during these elections… https://t.co/p7EGxfQZ3G— Dele Momodu Ovation (@DeleMomodu) February 26, 2019
8. My intervention is only an appeal and an advice to the Wazirin and his supporters. You gain more when you embrace peace when people expect you to fight
9. Atiku is free to head to court but I doubt if Buhari will obey any outcome, if unfavourable
10. Where then do you go? GOD. https://t.co/p7EGxfQZ3G— Dele Momodu Ovation (@DeleMomodu) February 26, 2019
The tweet:
I have had phone conversations. I'm assured that @Atiku is a Democrat and convinced he will do what is right for Nigeria. I've no doubt that he is a listening leader and going forward, whatever advise I have for him around this election will be given privately…
