The trio of Yakubu Dogara, Ike Ekweremadu and Dino Melaye, have all secured return tickets to the National Assembly. Yakubu Dogara, the speaker of the house of representatives, secured a return ticket for an unprecedented fourth term.He was announced winner of the election in Bogoro/Dass/Tafawa Balewa federal constituency of Bauchi state. Dogara formerly of the All progressives Congress, APC before switching over to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), polled 73,609 votes to defeat Dalhatu Kantana, of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who scored 50,078.
Not only has he broken the jinx that has plagued the House of Representatives since the 1st Assembly, as no presiding officer, both Speaker & Deputy Speaker, has ever been re-elected to the House, he has also set a record as the first in Bauchi State to return a member to the House of Representatives for fourth consecutive term.
Controversial senator, Dino Melaye, formerly of the All Progressives Congress, who switched over to the People’s Democratic Party as he also got lucky. He defeated Smart Adeyemi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to retain his Kogi west senatorial seat. Melaye polled 85, 395 votes to defeat Adeyemi, who scored 66, 901 votes.
So also the deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, who was declared winner of his Enugu west district for the fifth consecutive time. He polled 86,088 ahead of his closest rival, Juliet Ibekaku-Nwaugwu of the APC who polled 15,187.
