The candidate of The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the presidential election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has defeated the All Progressive Congress candidate, President Muhammadu Buhari, at the polling unit of Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governorship candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos state.
While Atiku secured 52 votes at the Femi Okunnu polling unit in Ikoyi, where Sanwo-Olu and his wife voted, Buhari got 48 votes. However, the president secured victory at the polling unit where Bola Tinubu, a national leader of the APC, who backed the candidature of Sanwo-Olu, voted. While Buhari polled 121 votes there, his rival got 53 votes at unit 047, ward 3, Ikeja local government area, where Tinubu cast his ballot .
Speaking with reporters after casting his ballot earlier, Tinubu said he would accept the result of the presidential election even if it did not go the way of his party. He said that the will of the electorate must be respected, adding that as a true democrat, free and fair elections must be protected.
“We are not talking about the elites or those that are rich, but the poor masses, farmers, traders, artisans and the common man who seek for continuity.”
