Both the APC presidential candidate, President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole, were booed and stoned at the rally of the APC Presidential candidate on Monday at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Ogun State.

Trouble started when the APC National Chairman mentioned the name of the party’s governorship candidate in the state, Mr Dapo Abiodun, while addressing the crowd. Upon hearing Mr Abiodun’s name, the crowd started booing him. Shouts of “Ole! Ole! Ole!” rented the air as the angry mob stoned Oshiomhole with stones.

As the crowd trouble continued, Governor Ibikunle Amosun, who is supporting Adekunle Akinlade of the APM to succeed him, had to intervene and appeal to the crowd to respect the presence of President Buhari.
“I beg you in the name of God… this is what they want to happen… Please don’t disgrace me here. Our father is here, please don’t disgrace me. I beg you in the name of God, please don’t disgrace me before our father… We have laboured this hard. I am appealing to you. Please, leave. I beg you in the name of God, please leave. I beg you. I am begging,” he said in Yoruba.

Many in the crowd were not appeased and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo had to be called to give a speech, leading to the return of calm at the venue of the rally.

Also when the president raised the APC gubernatorial candidate’s arm, Dapo Abiodun, some aggrieved persons threw objects towards his direction, forcing security operatives to form a ring around him and shortly after, left the venue of the rally thus bringing it to an end.

Amosun had lost out in his bid to secure the APC gubernatorial ticket for Adekunle Akinlade, a serving member of the house of representatives. The governor had accused Oshiomhole and some APC leaders of working against the interest of the state through the emergence of Dapo Abiodun, whom he vowed not to hand over to. After losing the APC ticket, Akinlade defected to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), under which he would be contesting the March 2 election while Amosun, his benefactor, will contest Saturday’s senatorial election under APC.
