Bola Tinubu, the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), says Lagos state has experienced deviations from enlightened governance in recent times. Without mincing words, he chided Akinwunmi Ambode, the governor of the state, and endorsed Jide Sanwo-Olu, the challenger, in the race for the APC governorship ticket in Lagos.

According to him, the party had adopted direct primary in the state, thereby giving its members an opportunity to nominate their preferred candidate who will hopefully be the next state governor. Recalling his time in office, Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos state, said his administration “faithfully implemented” a master plan for economic development that had been pioneered by some patriots about 20 years ago. He said while Babatunde Fashola, his successor also followed through with it, the same could not be said for the Ambode-led administration. Speaking on Ambode’s only opponent, Sanwu-Olu, without mentioning his by name, Tinubu said: “I am encouraged by the emergence of a candidate in this primary who has served the state in senior positions in my administration, the Fashola administration and even in the current one. While possessing a wealth of experience and exposure, he is a young man endowed with superlative vision and commitment.

“Most importantly, he understands the importance of the blueprint for development. He esteems it as a reliable and well-conceived vehicle for the future development of the state. He also knows the value of reaching out and working with others in order to maximize development and provide people the best leadership possible.”
