Virgil Abloh, the founder of haute street wear label Off-White and a longtime creative director for Kanye West has been named the next artistic director of one of the oldest and most powerful European houses in the luxury business, Louis Vuitton, their men’s wear line to be specific, thus making him the design house’s first African-American artistic director, and one of the few black designers at the top of a French heritage house.

Virgil Aboh’s ascent began when he worked at Fendi in 2006. According to Michael Burke, the chairman and chief executive officer of Louis Vuitton. “I am thrilled to see how his innate creativity and disruptive approach have made him so relevant, not just in the world of fashion but in popular culture today. His sensibility toward luxury and savoir-faire will be instrumental in taking Louis Vuitton’s men’s wear into the future.”
