The Federal Government, FG has responded to the opposition party, People’s Democratic Party (PDP)’s claim that the abduction and release of the Dapchi school girls was stage-managed. 104 out of the 110 abducted girls from Government Girls Science and Technical College, Dapchi, had been returned to their village on Wednesday. The PDP had accused the Federal Government of plotting the abduction, and asked that it be investigated.

But Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture, said stage-managing the abduction would have taken a conspiracy of global proportion. The comments made by the opposition party, Mohammed said, portrays them as an inhuman, insensitive, unpatriotic and unworthy party. The release of the girls, he added, was a result of negotiations by friendly countries and international organisations. He added that no government passes without its fair share of tragedies, but what differs them is how the tragedies are managed. He said:

“As we have said many times since the abduction of the Dapchi schoolgirls, no government is exempted from its own share of tragedies. What makes the difference is the way such tragedies are managed. Whereas it took the PDP all of 18 days to even acknowledge the abduction of the Chibok girls in 2014, the All Progressives Congress-led FG acted promptly and responsively when the Dapchi schoolgirls were abducted 19 Feb. 2018, hence their quick release.”
