Odili floats private university, makes Abubakar Chancellor

Former governor of Rivers State, Dr. Peter Odili, has joined the league of promoters of private universities in Nigeria with his own privately funded university, PAMO University of Medical Science, the first private medical science university in the country and the second medical university in the country. The first university of medical science and the third in Africa was established by Ondo State government on April 24, 2015.

And to officially commission and signal its takeoff, Odili got former Head of State, General Abdulsalam Abubakar was chosen due to his close business ties with the state, for the job. He was also installed as the Chancellor of the University. Also, the governor of Rivers State Nyesom Wike, announced the approval of a N500 million grant to the university situated at Iriebe in Obio/Akpor local government area of the state, as he declared that the state government would partner private investors to promote tertiary education in the state.

The governor also stated that the State Government will enter into a memorandum of understanding with the university to sponsor 100 indigenous students annually for the next five years. He said the State Government established the College of Medical Sciences at the Rivers State University because of its commitment to train qualified medical doctors just as he commended the proprietor of the university, Dr Peter Odili, for investing in the setting up of the university in the state.
