Until she was thrown into an all-female Holloway jail in London after she was arrested in France in October 2008 by a UK crown court for assisting former Delta State governor, James Ibori in a series of money laundering scams, Udoamaka Okoronkwo was more or less like the queen of the manor in Ibori’s domain. She not only had access to his heart, she had access to his money, investments and the rest. It is a wonder that Ibori didn’t cement their relationship despite having a daughter for him. Besides having a string tied to Ibori, Udoamaka was a regular on the social scene, gracing red carpet events draped in some of the best clothes that only good money can buy, money she had unlimited access to. Udo as she is fondly called, had friends in high places; in politics, business, on the social scene and generally lived a life that many can only dream of. After her unceremonious release from jail in 2012, she did struggle with getting her life back on track at first. She tried hard to wriggle out of the stigma of being an ex-convict. Most of her friends deserted her as no one wanted to be seen to be associated with her and jump into unnecessary conclusions. And then she battled to revive her business, a wine shop called Sagicon on Awolowo way, Ikoyi, which reportedly took a downward turn during her trial and imprisonment, following poor financial returns. She kept a low profile for a while and gradually began to pick up the pieces of her life and return to the life she once knew. She has since been sighted at a few high profile events and was recently seen seating front row at the GT Bank Fashion Weekend decked to the hilt just as in her days of yore.
