The design of the agbada which was by Ugo Monye, a male designer was showcased at the 2017 Lagos Fashion Design Week and just a few weeks after, Ebuka opted for the uncommon design for his own aso ebi which he wore to his bossom friend, Banky W’s wedding over the weekend. With the huge appreciation and drooling the design of the agbada has garnered since Ebuka wore it, it therefore came as a rude shock when another male designer, Sly Monay suddenly decided to lay claim to being the originator of the design.

In an instagram post, Sly Monay said, “It’s good to know that the deconstructed agbada concept which originated from the Sly Monay 2016 collection showcased at the African Fashion Week London has finally gained credence.”
He then went on to put up a picture of his own design side by side that of Ebuka’s design by Ugo Monye. While many are of the opinion that the two designs look nothing alike, others feel that Ugo probably got his inspiration from Sly and decided to up the ante.
