Ade Hassan, the lady behind popular lingerie b rand, Nubian Skin, was last week honoured by the Queen of England, Queen Elizabeth II with an MBE, Member of the British Empire, in recognition of her contribution to the fashion industry in the UK. The Queen’s honor investiture took place at the Buckingham Palace where Prince William did the decoration on behalf of the Queen.

An investment banker turned entrepreneur, Ade Hassan, a graduate of Duke University founded Nubian Skin, a lingerie brand for black women which she says was born out of frustration. The lingerie brand was the black woman’s answer to nude/invisible underwear especially since black women had limited underwear choices for sheer clothings. The line of lingerie has colours that range from very dark to light-dark; such as berry, cinnamon caramel and café ole. The brand is not only more universal, it is all inclusive.

According to Ade Hassan, it took two and a half years of scurrying to get everything in place to get Nubian skin running as finding a manufacturer was a bit difficult but today, Nubian Skin is one of the most preferred brand of lingerie and underwear for the black woman world over.
