They are both supposed to be in a romantic relationship. In fact after they both got separated from their respective spouses, Rachel Bakam from Israel Edjaren, a television presenter and MC and John Fashanu from Abigail Igwe, Joseph Yobo’s mother in-law, both of them quickly became an item and had no qualms flaunting their relationship all over the city of Abuja where they both reside. They were quick to always profess their love for each other when being interviewed by the press. In fact many had concluded that it was only a matter of time before they tie the knot especially as they were both conferred with chieftaincy titles from Eze Okwe kingdom in Enugu State, sometime in 2016.

But only recently, the love tune seem to have changed as Rachel now claims that they there is nothing romantic binding her and the football legend, John Fashanu, saying that they are just great friends. She insists that their closeness is only based on the humanitarian causes they are both advocates of adding that he is an amazing business partner and loyal friend who is a professional to the core. Well, many are of the opinion that her sudden change of description of who John Fashanu is to her, may not be unconnected to a recent land scandal involving John in which he was briefly detained by the police in Abuja. However Rachel has debunked this claim insisting there is no truth to it. One therefore wonders what may have gone wrong between the two love birds that would warrant Rachel put John in the friend zone.

An actress, Rachel is an Abuja based television presenter on her own TV shows, ‘Rachel the Piper’ in English and ‘Rachel mai Kakaki’ in Hausa whereby she uses her TV programme to bridge differences, sell the Nigerian brand while also enabling peace, unity and eradicating poverty. She is also a humanitarian who runs a charity organisation Rachel Rahila Bakam Foundation, through which internally displaced people are offered scholarships. John Fashanu is businessman and a retired Nigerian professional footballer who played for Britain.
