A letter written by the late rapper, Tupac Shakur while he was alive and in prison has revealed that he not only dated Madonna but that he also dumped her for being white. According to the letter, dating her ruined his gangster image, shock prison letter reveals.
In a startling prison letter, the late rap super star told the Queen of Pop that their 18 month long relationship was becoming bad for his gangsta-lifestyle image and so had to break it off.
He wrote: “For you to be seen with a black man wouldn’t in any way jeopardise your career, if anything it would make you seem that much more open and exciting. But for me at least in my previous perception I felt due to my ‘image’ I would be letting down half of the people who made me what I thought I was.
The letter dated January 15th 1995, said to contain more revelations, will be sold at an auction in the US later this month and is expected to fetch a fortune. From the letter, Tupac clearly felt that he would devastate Madonna with his rejection, saying, “I never meant to hurt you.”
The pair first met in March 1993 at the Soul Train Music Awards in Los Angeles after being introduced by actress, Rosie Perez. By the end of March 1994, the pair’s romantic relationship was going strong, reports TMZ.
The music star even credited a foul-mouthed appearance on the ‘Late Show With David Letterman’ in 1994 to being in a gangsta mindset because of her romantic involvement with the Thug Life rapper.
“I was mad at [David Letterman] when I said the F-word a lot,” she told Stern. I was in a weird mood that day. I was dating Tupac Shakur at the time and the thing is, he got me all riled up about life in general.”
