In his hey days as a hip hop artist in Nigeria, Babalola Falemi, more popularly known as Sauce Kid or Sinzu was one of the IT artistes who dominated the entertainment industry. With several hit singles, he made sure hi songs and name remained in the subconscious of most Nigerians as he collaborated with some of Nigeria’s favourite artistes for some of his songs.
Not long after, the diminutive rapper, disappeared from the music scene no one exactly knew where he was hibernating let alone what he was up to. But he would soon surface in America and shortly after get into problems with the authorities for fraud related reasons.
Now he has been sentenced to two years in a Federal prison after stealing $15,388. According to court documents, Falemi obtained stolen bank card numbers and identity information from their owners, then encoded the account numbers onto blank plastic cards. After using an automated system to change account PINs, he was able to withdraw cash from bank ATMS and buy merchandise from stores between July 23 and 26 of 2016.
He was arrested at the Boise Airport as he was about to board a flight. A card encoding device and $6,000 in cash were found on him. Falemi was initially charged with conspiracy to commit bank fraud, eight counts each of bank fraud and aggravated identity theft, and possession of 15 or more fraudulent bank cards.
He pleaded guilty to one of the counts of aggravated identity theft and in exchange, the other counts were dismissed. His sentencing took place two weeks ago and he the judge who sentenced him, Edward J.Lodge, placed him on one year supervised release after his prison term.
