Operatives of the Ogun Police Command have arrested three young men for gang-raping a 16-year-old girl. The suspects: Oluwaseun Damilohun (20), Oriyomi Damilohun (19) and Oluwasegun Idowu (18) were arrested following a report at the Ifo Police Station by one Alimi Olasunkanmi of So-Safe Corps, a local security outfit.
The complainant reported to the police that the victim went to take bath at the Odo-pata stream of Pata Abiodun village in Ifo LGA at about 10:00am when the suspects ambushed her. It was further learnt that the suspects dragged her forcefully into a nearby bush and took turns to have sex with her.
According to the complainant, while the suspects were carrying out the act, one of them was video recording with a threat that if the victim dared to report them, they would upload it on the internet.
The spokesman of the police in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, on Thursday, confirmed the incident. Oyeyemi said following receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ifo, Adeniyi Adekunle, led his detectives to the scene with some So-Safe Corps members where the suspects were arrested.
He explained that, “They have all confessed to committing the crime and the victim has been taken to hospital.”
He added that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Edward Awolowo Ajogun, had directed the immediate transfer of the suspects to the anti-human trafficking and child labour unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation.
He also quoted the CP to have appealed to parents to warn their children and wards to desist from any form of anti-social behaviour as the command under his watch would not spare anyone caught in such vices.
